So, I wrote a post for my new blog, "The Life of a Coach's Wife" and being the science nerd I am, I couldn't just accept the fact that the recipe told me to put olive oil, brown sugar, and honey together. I had to go further and do a little research. I even came across this amazing article about olive oil helping to reduce forms of skin cancer. So...I decided to share the post with y'all here too!

TOILET PAPER ROLLS!!

Now, I'm huge on recycling all forms of paper and cardboard in our home, but how about upcycling?

Yes, Please!

Supplies:
Hot Glue

Scissors

Toilet Paper Rolls

Primer

Spray Paint

I cut each toilet paper roll (and one paper towel roll) into about 1 inch strips. I then pushed them flat and hot glued them together. I started with a central 6 petal flower and just kept adding from them with hot glue along the way.

Once the glue dried, I sprayed a dark primer and then a chocolate gloss spray paint!

End result...I love it!!

Very simple project and you can use many different designs. Get creative!!

Confession Time

So, I have a confession...I have stopped couponing!

That's right, until today, I haven't cut a coupon in almost 12 months!!! Ahh!! To fill y'all in, I got engaged! Yep, I started a new blog to follow the engagement, South Texas Wedding. That's taken a lot of time with the wedding planning and blog AND I started my professional career (night shift to boot), we moved into our first apartment, he started his professional career, (coaching so we have games once a week), and traveling back home at least once a month...just to name a couple!

I mean, I still go down the aisles of HEB and take the little yellow coupons that they have on hand, but nothing similar to the way I used to coupon. And...we are on our last bottle of shampoo and last deodorant stick. Our stockpile has lasted almost 1 whole year, but it's exhausted now. Being the Frugal Science Gal I am, I'm having a really hard time paying full price for a bottle of shampoo!

So, here it is...I'm starting my couponing journey again. Since I don't have as much time to plan the shopping trip like I used to so I think I am going back the the coupon file folder. Each week I'm going to go through the ads and cut the coupons of the products that we use. I mean, even if I'm only saving $0.25 on a product that we use all the time, it is better than nothing. Hopefully I'll get closer to the way it was before!

Hamilton Beach Toaster RECALL

About a year ago I did a review on the Hamilton Beach Toaster which we really enjoyed and have personally had no issues with. This review was part of CSN Stores where I was allowed to select an item and review it. It is by no fault of CSNStores, but yet I sill received this e-mail from CSN Stores informing me of a recall on the Hamilton Beach Brands Recall of Model 22600 Toasters:

We are writing to let you know that Hamilton Beach, in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has announced a voluntary recall of the Classic Chrome 2 Slice Toaster.
Some potential safety issues have emerged with the heating element, which can remain energized indefinitely when an item is placed in the toaster. This malfunction can cause a fire hazard if the toaster is near flammable items. Fortunately, no injuries have occurred, but we wanted to alert you to the situation right away. A more detailed description of this recall can be found here:

The recall affects the Classic Chrome 2 Slice Toaster, model number 22600 with specific series codes. These series codes begin with the letters C or D, and have the format of CXXXXBI or DXXXXBI, where XXXX is a four-digit number ranging from 0190 through 5290. The model number and series code are printed on the bottom of the toaster. The toaster has a chromed steel exterior, a front control panel with a rotary toast shade selector, function buttons arranged in an arc, a front removable crumb tray and “Hamilton Beach” printed across the front.

South Texas Wedding

So...you might have noticed that haven't posted here in a while.

That would be because I have a NEW BLOG!!

That's right!

I'm documenting and sharing my experiences of planning my wedding over the next year on my blog, South Texas Wedding.

Our trip to San Francisco was pretty expensive. In order to save a little on our meals I ordered Restaurant.com gift certificates online before we left. I knew that we would be walking everywhere since we weren't getting a rental car and so I got all of them within a 10 minute walk. This was really easy since we were staying in Fisherman's Wharf and there are a TON of restaurants around the area and people walk EVERYWHERE. Another restaurant we ate at was in the Hyatt across the street from our hotel and it was so good that we ended up going back there a second (unfortunately without a certificate). I LOVE San Francisco!

We went on vacation this past week to San Francisco and I fell in love. I have been born and raised in Texas and I never thought I would ever find a place that I could live other than the sweet, southern-hospitality state of Texas, but...I think I found it!

I have so much to write about this wonderful city.

To leave you off with one feature that I loved so much about San Francisco was their environmental consciousness. They were very much focused on reducing our carbon footprint in this world which I absolutely love/respect. Their Recology program is one that should be spread Nationwide.

Even our Hotel had bins at the Continental Breakfast that said,

"Recycle", "Compost", and "Landfill".

It really drives home the fact that what we throw in the trash will be sitting in a landfill.

Ingredients

12 Eggland's Best® Eggs, hard cooked and peeled
1/3 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup sliced green onions
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon cider vinegar or white vinegar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
3 slices bacon, crisp-cooked, drained, crumbled
1/3 cup chopped fresh parsley
1/4 cup chopped black olives
1/4 cup chopped dill pickle or sweet pickle
Crackers Keebler® Town House® Original

Directions

1. Peel and chop eggs. In large bowl use potato masher to slightly mash eggs. Stir in mayonnaise, green onions, paprika, mustard, vinegar, salt and pepper. Mound on serving platter in oval egg shape.

2. Sprinkle with rows of bacon, parsley, olives and pickle. Serve with crackers.

It takes ~20 minutes and serves 24!

We Got A New Car!!

Review: myScentEssence

When I received my Scent Lamp, I was surprised with the physical appearance of the unit. This is the unit that I received:

I have to say that this picture does not do the unit justice at all. It is SOOO much cuter in person!! The light comes through each of those squares in just a perfefct way!

For the aroma, I put the recommended 25 pieces of Scent Shakes into the dish and turned it up to the brightest setting and within a matter of 10 minutes, the scent filled the ENTIRE living room. I want to point out that our living room is open to the kitchen and the upstairs and it literally could be smelt everywhere in the room! It does state that the higher the level of lighting, the stronger the aroma and WOW! It works!

In this picture you can see the size of the individual pieces (I put 25 small pieces out of one small container into the warmer.)

The next time I used it, I turned it on to a lower light setting and it released a more subtle fragrance. I would recommend this setting more because on the highest setting the light is pretty bright, too bright to have in direct sight. If you put it away from direct sight though, the highest setting is the most effective for filling a full room with wonderful fragrance!

Another amazing part of these is that the scents last a REALLY long time. I have added pieces of the wax since I first got it but it is still going strong! Personally, I don't have this on all the time but I use it when people are coming over (FOR SURE! I've received many compliments on how amazing our place smells) and when I need a little pick me up of freshness. I can't tell you how long the scent would last if you have it on 24/7, but I can tell you that even if you just turn it on and off not only will the fragrance last in the room, but the wax will still be smelling wonderful after many uses! I think that this is really one of the most cost efficient air freshners I have ever used!

And....myScentEssence is Safe!! I love that it doesn't have a flame involved. If you have small children I would keep them away from it still though because the wax does melt. The hot wax could be harmful to a small child but this is still a MUCH safer alternative to candles. I like that it's not a spray either. I always worry about the chemicals that are being released into the air with a spray that my family is then subjected to breathing in.

The fragrances myScentEssence offers are very extensive and amazing! I was given several fragrances to try and my favorite was the RainShowers (a close second was Waterfalls). If you like the "Fresh" scent of air freshners than you will love this one!!

In order to try out the scents I would recommend that you purchase the 2 oz container for only $4.50!!! Then when you find the one that is PERFECT for your home go ahead and purchase the 10 oz tub for only $14.50! This will last you a LONG time!

OVERALL:

I would definitely recommend this to anyone!! Really!! I can't get over how much I love this product! I will DEFINITELY be purchasing refills for MANY years to come!!!

Did you know that Frank's Red Hot had more than one sauce?

I didn't before this opportunity. I am so glad that I discovered all of the other options that can be found at...Walmart!! On their website you can find all the different varieties of sauces they have! They have them for almost every occasion you could want a sauce! Just look at these flavors: Red Hot Original, Red Hot Extra Hot, Red Hot Chili N Lime. They also have several WING choices to choose from: Red Hot Buffalo Wings Sauce, Red Hot Hot Buffalo Wings Sauce, Red Hot Sweet Heat BBQ Sauce. Even more a Red Hot Chili For Dipping and More!!! I believe that ALL of these are "And More"!

When we went to Walmart we found the Red Hot Buffalo Wings Sauce. Although this is a "Wing" sauce, doesn't mean you can't use it for much more!! Personally, I made BBQ sandwiches with this sauce. Yum!! It was a great combination of spicy and tangy.

Even better...the recipe I used was using a Hamilton Beach Slow Cooker. What does this mean? Prepare it...stick it in...and wait! Just that simple!! It was great to know that I already had dinner going early.

Recipe:

1 lb Pork Chop

1/2 can of Beef Broth

6 oz of Franks Red Hot Buffalo Wings Sauce

Instructions:

Put Pork Chops and Beef Broth in Slow Cooker. Cook on high for 4 1/2 hours. Shred pork (I used two forks). Put shredded pork in non-stick skillet. Pour and mix in Franks Red Hot Buffalo Wings Sauce. And...You're Done!!! Put over bread or eat plain. Either way, it's amazing!! I will definitely be using this sauce for many more recipes in the future!!!

Many of y'all know about my passion for CSNstores.com!! I absolutely love shopping this site and could LITERALLY shop for HOURS!!! Another thing about CSN stores is that you can call about ANYTHING. I know that a lot of OTHER websites have negative reviews on products not because of the quality of the product itself but because of the misinterpretation of the produc that they purchased. In my search for products, I called CSNstores customer service and was able to ask about a specific knife set. They were so helpful and assured me about the product. Where else can you get customer service like that?!? Love this website!!!

I am just always SO impressed at just how much I am able to get on a budget! We moved a few weekends ago and along with this move has been a ton of preparation. This is our first place together and we are combining all of our stuff and realizing what we do and don't have. I was able to get a few things that I knew that neither one of us had before the move so that we would be able to start off with some stuff. For under $65 I was able to get:

YES!!! All for less than $65!!

All of these products are ones that every household can use!

I am absolutely in love with the Farberware Nonstick Carbon Steel pans!! I started off by buying muffin pans and mini-muffin pans in this collection and now I have bought the 3 above as well as 2 loaf pans, 3 baking sheets, and a bundt cake pan! I am so glad that the first product I bought for our new place was made from them because now all of the pans we have thus far are the Farberware Nonstick Carbon Steel!! I LOVE that it seems to just fall out of the pan. I spray mine with Pam before using, bake, and simply take a knife around the edges and the cake/brownies/cornbread/etc just comes out!! These pans are heavy too! For me, I consider that a GREAT thing! I feel that I am definitely getting my money's worth and that they will last me a really long time! Isn't that what everyone wants when they are buying new pans. Most people don't think..."I'll have these pans for a year or 2 and then buy a whole new set". Personally, I would rather buy higher quality products and never have to buy them again then the cheaper products that rust. I do wash these products by hand, because like I said, I want to keep them for a REALLY long time. Because of the nonstick surfacet though, wash time is nothing! I have had no problems with rust or anything!

I am so excited about the Farberware Nonstick Carbon Steel 13" Pizza Crisper because I can't stand the bottom of the pizza crust getting soft. This will really help in that by adding the crisp to the bottom. When I was looking through the selection I also found a . I'm hoping that this pizza crisper will serve double and used to make potato chips as well. I haven't tried that out yet, but it will be interesting to see how they turn out!

As for the Farberware Nonstick Carbon Steel 9" Round Cake Pans, I chose them because I really want to make those cute round, double-decker cakes! My mom has made me the same one every year for my birthday since I was probably 5 and it is in that shape. I feel like it is a great entertaining cake as well as birthday and many other festiviites. The best thing about it is along with the festivities physical appeal that it offers versus a 9 x 13 flat cake, it can ALSO be used for everyday desserts (or for us the weekly bake every Sunday). These worked like a charm!! If it wasn't for me forgetting to put icing inbetween them and trying to do it after...the cakes would have been perfect! They just popped out of the pans when I flipped it over.

On to the Nordicware Natural Commercial 13" Covered Cake Pan. I purchased this pan because my mom has always made (my absolute FAVORITE) homemade lasagna in a pan similar to this one. She suggested I get a pan like this for an even and thorough cooking. By adding a lid to the baking process on items such as lasagna, it keeps the cheese from getting all hard and crusty and it remains that ooey gooey goodness melted, stringy cheese!!! Some people like for their cheese to get hard, but I'm not a fan of that...at all. I think it takes away the flavor of the cheese and you are adding calories and fat for...nothing! Haha! If I'm eating the extra cheese, I want to taste every bit of it! Back to the pan...like I said about the Farberware products, I was excited to see that this pan was "Commercial". Commercial usually means that it is going to be heavy duty because it is intended for the kitchen of a restaurant and such (Commercial use). This pan was not what I expected it to be as far as weight and thickness but it defintiely does it's job! I'm sure this is also another product that will be around for many years to come. Also, it is made in the USA though which I am a huge supporter of!

Now for the Cooking Tools and Gadgets!!

The first product is our Calphalon Can Opener. We both had can openers previously back from college but they were both awful! Mine was horribly rusted and his had a broken handle. So, we decided to upgrade. I picked this one because I really like the Calphalon name. This can opener is a little large, but we are very happy with it. My mom who has arthritis saw it when helping us unpack and mentioned how much she wanted one because of the larger handle. The oversized knob is intented to make it easy turning. The fact that this product is dishwasher safe will allow us to keep it for many years to come and maybe even as long as the point where we are starting to get older and needing a larger knob.

The Calphalon Ice Cream Scoop is definitley more of a novelty. It is by no means something that every household needs, but is is something that I wanted! I love the way this scoop makes perfect little balls of ice cream. I think it looks so much better than the scoop of ice cream the spoon I used to use made. I have this one dessert that I like to serve with company over it involves ice cream. I can't wait to have our first guests over with this new ice cream scoop!!

J. Crew Clearance Purchase!!

Okay...so I have a bit of an obsession with shopping.

I went back home a few weekends ago and met my best friend half way between home and where she lives (Recent College Grads so we took jobs in different cities...so sad) and that city just happens to have an OUTLET MALL! We lived together during college and both enjoyed nicer things but defintely could not afford them. So now that we are both working we had a little spending room. We went around the outlets and were able to control ourselves until we got to J. Crew. I never really liked going there because spending $50 for a t-shirt never seemed reasonable. Well, the outlet mall pretty much has the same prices as a normal J. Crew with the exception of their clearance section!!

We were able to snag some GREAT buys!!

We both got:

Navy Blue Pea Coat with Gold buttons (MY FAVORITE!)- $50
Gray Sweater- one of those really light weight/thin ones-$14

I got:

Black Blazer-$25

The problem is that e were about to walk out of the store and then I found the clearance section tucked away. We both ended up spending more than we had planned which wouldn't have if we didn't find the clearance section BUT they are really nice items and J. Crew has great quality!

All in all...I'm happy with the buy!!

"Teacher Monday: Cash for Classrooms" is an effort to support schools in less developed countries! This is such a neat program! Each winning U.S. classroom will be linked with a school in Guatemala or Costa Rica. The 50 schools in Guatemala or Costa Rica will ALSO receive $1000 for school supplies!!

The U.S. classrooms will receive $750 in cash to purchase school supplies and $250 in Del Monte fresh fruit coupons for classroom snacks.

I had the amazing opportunity to review Pillsbury Sweet Moments! I could choose between the Bite Size or the Molten Lava Brownies and I chose the Bite Size.

These are absolutely delicious!
They are better than any candy or brownie or cookie or cake that I have EVER had!
They are truly fantastic!! If you are a chocolate lover...I would HIGHLY recommend these!!!
For me, I would eat them during that little time when I first come home from work and nobody else is there yet and I can sit back and relax. This is a really limited time, so the Pillsbury Sweet Moments were absolutely perfect because they are already made and Ready to Eat in their refrigerated bag!!
On top of them being the best store bought desert I have ever had...they are from a trusted brand, Pillsbury. We have used Pillsbury rolls, crescents, etc. for so many years and I know that I am always going to get the same high quality product. It is nice to have consistency in food products (ESPECIALLY when they taste as good as Pillsbury Sweet Moments).

BUY IT:
Personally, I think that the bag is worth EVERY penny!! If you compare the price of the bag to the purchase price of a candy bar that you would replace it with (you would have to buy multiple candy bars) the bag turns into a steal of a deal! So, when you go to your local grocery store and are looking in the refrigerated baked goods check these out because if you are a chocolate lover like me...you'll love them!

Wilton Cupcakes N' More 38 Ct Dessert Stand Review

I LOVE THIS DESSERT STAND!!!

This is my little creation using the

Wilton 38 Count Dessert Stand.

At first, I thought of it as a cupcake stand, but oh was I wrong!! There are so many uses for this stand!! In the picture above, I used a mini muffin pan for bite size and portion control brownies. I have used this stand for brownies, rice krispies, fruit, muffins, and cupcakes!!! At first I thought that I would use this for entertainment purposes only but I have had it for 3 weeks now and EVERY week I have made something to put on it!

One problem that we have is..."Out of Site, Out of Mind". This is often a problem in many households which causes food to go bad without being consumed in time. When I made muffins two weeks ago, I left them on the stand and everyone remembered to grab one for breakfast on their way out!

I would HIGHLY recommend this cupcake stand to ANYONE!!

An amazing feature about Wilton.com is that they provide various ideas for you for purposes of the item that you purchase. This Cupcakes N' More 38 Ct Dessert Stand had numerous ideas and I have included pictures of two of them.

I have not "Entertained" with this stand yet, but I cannot wait to! I have told numerous people at work about this product because I absolutely LOVE it! Everyone who has stopped by and seen the stand has complimented us on it (even my boyfriend's brothers!!!) Based on your decorating expertise, you can make this a centerpiece for a birthday party instead of a cake and so forth. My mom actually has the Cupcakes N' More 23 Count Standard Dessert Stand and we have already discussed combining them and using them for future events such as birthday parties for the nieces and nephew!

Choose from the top or bottom shelves in the grocery store. Items at eye level are usually more expensive.
